The Health Committee of the Pennsylvania House passed a bill, HB 1077, requiring women to have an ultrasound before having an abortion. The bill currently states that the monitor must be placed where the woman can see it.
You will be pleased to know that wording requiring the person doing the ultrasound to have been specifically trained in that task has been removed.
When asked about the bill Gov. Corbett indicated he was in favor of it provided the ultrasound used external methods instead of an invasive probe. The governor said if women didn't want to look at the screen they could just close their eyes. (see "Corbett receptive to mandatory ultrasound bill," 90.5 Essential Public Radio.)
