Birdwatching

My blogger buddy over at PSOTD wrote a nice entry on birdwatching as a family hobby. We keep a bird guide and some binoculars in the kitchen window to get a closer look at the cardinals, jays, robins and what not that roost in the shrubbery or hop around in the yard. One morning I counted six robins rooting around for worms. It's a good inexpensive hobby and its cool to hear the kids pointing birds out to each other.

Here's a good question to ask your kids - how do robins know there's food under ground? My kids stumped me with that question one day. Here's the information, and more on robins that you may know. Stump the kids - it's kinda fun, and it's nice to see their minds open up on such a commonly seen animal.
