On Friday, Paul Lang and Robert "Tommy" Tomlinson met with the editorial board of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Tomlinson is the Republican State Senator for the 6th state senate district; Lang is his Democratic challenger. It is common for candidates to have a meeting like this as a pre-endorsement screening, and some have written about how rigorous they can be. Tomlinson was accompanied by his former chief of staff, Jim Cawley, who is currently a Bucks County Commissioner. Lang asked if Cawley was taking a vacation day. According to a press release from the Lang campaign, Cawley said "Don't go there." It seems to me to be a reasonable question. Why would a sitting county commissioner take time on an afternoon to attend such a meeting? Tomlinson has been in the state senate since 1995 and served in the state house for four years before that, surely he can manage on his own, can't he? If he can't, maybe it's time to retire. And doesn't Cawley have county business to attend to?

Paul has Tommy on the run. That said, I don't see the point in attacking Cawley. There will be plenty of time to do that next year.
I'm not sure the blogpost consitutes an "attack," but that is matter of opinion. However, I do think it's a bad idea to only comment on the behavior of elected officials at election time. Best to note something when it happens, especially since blogs are very transient and there is no guarantee of "next year."
