A few notes from recent issues of the New Yorker:
August 24th issue: "Plugged in," by Tad Friend. Electric car magnate Elon Musk's college experience is described as "He spent two years at Queen's University in Ontario, then finished up at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned bachelor's degrees in physics and economics, with an unofficial minor in first-person-shooter video games."
September 28th issue: "A life of its own," by Michael Specter. A group of researchers at Pennsylvania State University "have tentatively figured out how to modify that [woolly mammoth] DNA and place it inside an elephant's egg." Also, Drew Endy, "among the most compelling evangelists of synthetic biology" earned an engineering degree from Lehigh University. To top it off there is a mention of the Philadelphia Flower Show.
File this under "things to bring up if your kids want to go to school out of state."
