Mating season is between October and December, so now is the time to be careful.
The best thing I recently learned about deer accidents: don't swerve if the accident is unavoidable. More deaths are caused when people try to swerve. And just slow down!
You can read many such tidbits (and much much more) in Tom Vanderbilt's recent book, Traffic. It's an amazing book that'll make you rethink how you drive and what driving is all about.
