PA Dems Have House Majority

The Inky's wonderful blog on the count and recount in the Chester County house race reports yesterday that Democrat Barbara McIlvaine Smith is the new representative from the 156th district. That puts the Democrats in the majority (just barely). Kudos to the Inquirer for running the temporary blog, http://chescocount.blogspot.com/.

Thank God. This should effectively kill the TABOR amendment, which passed last session. And it should make things a lot easier for the unions (including mine) which are negotiating with the state. Hopefully, it should also stop any plans to privatize the Penn Turnpike dead in its tracks. I can't imagine the Dem leadership going along with a fraud like that perpetrated in Indiana. If this Democratic House accomplishes nothing else, but prevent garbage from coming to the floor, it will have been worth it.

DG,

We will have to see what the Dem's do. I'm less than thrilled with the casino locations in Philly, the limits on school district budgets, and the lack of real reform in state govt, but hope springs eternal, so maybe next year ....
