Two recent articles on the issues and problems concerning conflict of interest.
First up, "The Media-Lobbying Complex," by Sebastian Jones in March issue of The Nation. Those commentators you see on tv shows may be shilling for companies involved in the issues being debated. The network may know but you won't, because those ties are seldom if ever mentioned.
For an international view, read "Combustible" by Joshua Hammer in this month's Fast Company. It concerns people trying to get a piece of the Middle Eastern oil market but not revealing that they are on the corporate payroll. Slick on more ways than one.
