Another judge on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas is running for a higher bench. Judge James Lynn would like to serve on the Commonwealth Court. He is rated "recommended" by the Pennsylvania Bar Association. His questionnaire for them is online.
A few notes from his answers:
* he has been both and assistant district attorney and an defense attorney; both sides of the legal system
* he sings opera, on stage, in front of people, once with Luciano Pavarotti
* if you want Irish you want Lynn -- he's been involved with Irish music groups, St. Patrick's Day parades, helped found an organization for judges of Irish descent, etc
* he went to NYC after 9/11 and New Orleans after Katrina to help out however he could

He got creamed in the National Lawyer's Guild survey (http://www.nlgphilly.org/JudicialSurveyWriteup.pdf), the only candidate for Commonwealth Court to get comments, and was universally opposed (mostly Stronly Opposed) by those expressing an opinion on him. Comments in the survey include: "poor family court judge;refused to hold evidentiary hearings; little interest in precedent, the parties or the outcomes; poorly qualified for the bench";"Inarticulate, doesn't care about the law, poor courtroom demeanor, a poor jurist"; "poor judge - screams at litigants, makes irrational decisions, poor judicial temperment, takes the bench
hours after court is supposed to start"
Judge Lynn has strong support throughout the state and from Philadelphis where he is known best. He is endorsed by Pa. State Dem. Party. He has a reputation as a good judge who is not beholden to any powerful groups. Obviously thomas has an ax to grind and possibly was on the losing side of a case. I want a Judge on the Commonwealth Court who will make decisions based upon the law and fairness and not on keeping attorneys or any vested interest group happy. That is why I am voting for Lynn.
