While we are waiting for news on whether or not the state has a new budget and whether or not some state workers will be furloughed. In the meantime, here are a few more updates:
State Rep. Rick Taylor's bill to keep the Willow Grove Naval Air Station airport from being used as a commercial airport has passed the Pennsylvania house. ("House okays Willow Grove civilian flight ban," by Kori Walter Phillyburbs.com 7/07). It now goes over to the Senate.
Also in Phillyburbs this weekend, "Montco DA plans to keep lab," by Jacob Fenton 7/07.Excerpt:
Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor will continue to use a Willow Grove forensic testing lab despite pay-to-play criticism about the company's chief executive who gave about $40,000 in campaign contributions to Castor in recent years.
later
County commissioners, however, are seeking proposals for county work from other lab companies to make sure it is paying a competitive price for the service. State law does not require the work be competitively bid “so that the commissioners cannot unconstitutionally usurp” the district attorney's authority, Castor wrote in a memo.
Castor is currently running for county commissioner, as part of a team with incumbent Republican Jim Matthews.
