However, this past Monday, the Republican Senate Majority Leader, Dominic Pileggi, questioned one of Corbett's campaign promises. Corbett has said he won't raise taxes. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review "Pileggi: Corbett won't be able to keep no tax-hike pledge," by Brad Bumsted, 6/28):
"I don't see how he can do it, frankly," Pileggi, of Delaware County, said in response to a question while speaking to the Pennsylvania Press Club.
This seems a little more serious, as Corbett would surely assume Pileggi would be a significant ally if he were elected governor. In any event, two Republicans questioning Corbett's actions or statements over the course of a campaign are not that damaging but two so close together stand out. If this becomes a trend it could be a problem for Corbett come the fall campaigning season.
It's something to watch, certainly.
