STATEMENTS OF MEMBERS OF MAYORS AGAINST ILLEGAL GUNS
IN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT’S OBAMA’S COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE
Statement from Lancaster, PA, Mayor Rick Gray:
"I
want to thank President Obama for taking this significant first step in
the fight to end gun violence and keep our communities safe. His
leadership on this issue deserves praise, but we must also keep in mind
that the there's more work to be done. Members of Congress need to step
up and support these common-sense proposals for the sake of our families
and our children."
Statement from Swarthmore, PA, Mayor Rick Lowe:
"Ending
gun violence in America isn't about politics -- it's about saving
lives. That's why passing sensible gun laws is something that people on
both sides of the aisle agree upon. As part of a bipartisan coalition of
mayors committed to ending the carnage in this country, I am encouraged
by President Obama's bold plan and I strongly urge members of Congress
-- Democrats and Republicans alike -- to get behind it for the sake of
our communities and our children."
Statement from Harrisburg, PA, Mayor Linda Thompson:
"President
Obama's bold and comprehensive plan to end gun violence in this country
is comprised of sensible solutions that people on all sides of this
debate can agree upon. It's now up to lawmakers in Congress to pass
these measures that will help save lives. The American people won't
accept inaction any longer."
Statement from Allentown, PA, Mayor Ed Pawlowski:
"Thirty-three
people are murdered by guns every day. The president has taken the
first step, but how many more Americans must die before Congress follows
suit? Congress can save countless lives by closing the private sale
loophole and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines."
