Fitzpatrick Toddles into the Fray

GOP incumbent Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) didn't even let the ink dry on the election papers before issuing a press release (via politicspa) on Patrick Murphy's status as his Democratic challenger. Here are the first two paragraphs:

“I’d like to congratulate Pat Murphy on his nomination.”

“The voters now have a clear choice between Pat Murphy, a ‘cut and run’ liberal and me, Mike Fitzpatrick, a proven independent leader who knows we need a new plan for success in Iraq – and calls for an independent commission to develop it – but who won’t risk our families’ security by cutting and running.”

Hey, that's some congratulations. The press release goes on in the same vein. If he had waited a day or two, and hadn't used such overblown rhetoric (it gets much worse as you go on) he wouldn't sound quite so much like a scared rabbit.

One of the little Janes has been dealing with a bully at school and we've been practicing some comeback remarks at the dinner table. I'd like to offer this response:

independent? precipitous? tenuous? I'm surprised you know big words like that.

What's with the "cut and run" reference? Is that because Murphy, a real soldier who's been to Iraq, thinks we should leave before we cause
even more havoc in that country?

IMHO, a good counter would be for all Pat Murphy's supporters to send Army National Guard applications to Fitzpatrick's offices. Fitzpatrick is still a relatively young man and looks fit enough for duty to me.

Even better, I'm sure Murphy must know a few Army recruiters. Maybe he should send one to Fitzpatrick's home or office so Mike can put his money where his mouth is.

Think that wouldn't expose Fitzpatrick for the chickenhawk he is?

Fitzpatrick's press release reveals his campaign plan. Devoid of any ideas, he will attempt to smear Patrick with petty labels and fear-mongering.

Congratulations, Congressman Fitzpatrick, you just inspired another donation to the Murphy campaign.

Wow, Fitz. must really be sweating this one out. The fact that he had a negative release ready to go the second Patrick won the nomination really makes him look weak. Usually its the challenger that does that type of thing first against an incumbant. Looks like Fitz. is already on the defensive. But hey..... If I was a George Bush republican in Bucks County I would be scared to.
