I found this rather interesting:
"That's why I will be reintroducing the Support Working Parents Act this week to help ease this financial burden by allowing all working families nationwide, regardless of their income, to receive a 35 percent tax credit for the cost of their child care expenses."

From looking at the legislation, all she is doing is removing the stepdown. The credit exists already and steps down from 35% to 20%

Her proposed legislation means "the rich" would get a 35% tax credit (as opposed to the 20% currently).

I'm not sure if that really seems like a smart thing to do. I would understand if she wanted to fix the stepdown to include more lower income people, but she is expanding it for everyone.

Under the current campaign finance reporting law, candidates for state House and Senate must file five times in an election year: Second Friday before primary, 30 days after primary, second Friday before election, 30 days after election, end of year.

This means a loooong time between the second and third reports. Typically, early June to late October. Most fundraising occurs during this time. By the time the second Friday pre-election report is filed and posted online, we are near, maybe even past, Election Day.

Candidates for statewide offices (e.g., Governor, Attorney General) have two additional reporting times: Sixth Tuesday pre-primary and pre-election. This bill would add state House and Senate candidates to the list of candidates who must file those reports (i.e., seven times a year instead of just five.)

Speaking from personal experience, requesting and receiving treatment and obtaining coverage from my insurance company for medical issues related to my reproductive organs that were not related to pregnancy was incredibly difficult. I had to put off treatment of a painful condition for years in order to prove to the insurance company that my issues were "valid" -- essentially by having numerous, repetitive diagnostic procedures, as well as by trying alternative medical solutions that my doctors didn't even recommend (or want to do, in one case).

One of those solutions was chemical and the prescription drug I was taking required separate approval every 3 months by my prescription coverage (which was frequently denied, because each time I had to send the backlog of medical paperwork proving that I needed the drug). The drug ended up causing side effects and I had to stop taking it entirely.

In the end, I got the procedure I needed and it was covered by insurance -- thanks to having endured all of the above BUT only after I was forced to see a shrink to discuss the impact the medical procedure would have on my reproductive health. The whole process took nearly 10 years.

Meanwhile, my husband went to his doctor, requested a vasectomy, and had the procedure done in less than 9 calendar days. His operation was fully covered with no extra paperwork and no coddling or counseling.

Thanks for stopping by. Some non-religious groups may have stopped chartering but I think the majority of troops have always been affiliated with a church or other religious organization.

Personally I would love to see the policy changed. The national BSA website has an area for people to leave comments, etc. I've used this and other venues to make my views known.

A lot of chartering organizations backed out over the last several years, as the Scouts' abuse lawsuits, discrimination cases etc brought unwanted attention. Public schools, Fire companies, etc generally don't charter any more.
BTW, on this, there are organizations pushing the National BSA to change the policy. See Scoutingforall.org, Scoutsforequality.org
