Jimmie Moore for Congress

Judge Jimmie Moore, who retired from the Philadelphia Municipal Court, is running for Congress. PoliticsPA has done some research and found that while Moore is currently in the 1st congressional district, it is possible that redistricting will shift him into another district; regardless, the site reports, Moore intends to run, no matter the district.

Randy LoBasso at the PhillyNow blog has additional details.

Moore has served on the board of three charter schools, the Philadelphia Dance Company, and is currently on the board of the Sustainable Business Network, in addition to a number of other organizations.

One bit of unsolicited advice for the campaign -- it's an easily misspelled name, buy up some of the similar URLs. I was going from memory and it took me a few tries to get it right.

Hi Above Average Jane,
Along with the Coalition for Equality, Abington Add (Abington Against discrimination and defamation) is hosting an event called "Kickoff to Equality: a Celebration!" this Sat. (6/18) at 11am at the Abington Twp. Building. This will be the first of a series of events in support of a local Non-discrimination Ordinance with an independent, well-trained, volunteer Human Relations Commission. There will be music (The Planets)and other entertainment, as well as speakers such as Rep. Josh Shapiro; Rep. Brendan Boyle; a representative from the PA ACLU; Brian Sims (Pres. of Equality PA and GALLOP) and more! Please come to show support for an HRC -- or just come out to celebrate diversity!
If your organization or business would like to be added to the Coalition, please contact abingtonadd@gmail.com
Thank you!

I have heard nothing but good things about Judge Moore. I met him once before when he came out to my civic association when we had a panel on teen crime.

As an aside, from what I heard, he moved in close to where Bob Brady lives in Overbrook, so to cut Moore out, it would be some rather blatant gerrymandering.
