Shapiro and Richards Launch Campaign

from the inbox:

Today Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards announced their candidacy for Montgomery County Commissioner with a rally on the courthouse steps with more than 100 volunteers and supporters. Immediately following the rally the Shapiro Richards ticket filed with more than 2600 signatures, more than 5 times the number required, on the petitions to have their names appear on the official ballot in May.

“I am energized by the unity our campaign for County Commissioner has demonstrated today,” said Shapiro. “This extraordinary effort so early on in the race shows the support Leslie and I have for a fresh start in the Commissioners’ office. I am proud today as we take the next step and make our candidacy official to bring about new leadership in Montgomery County.”

“Josh and I will bring two fresh sets of eyes to the Commissioners’ office,” said Richards. “The great quality of the citizens of Montgomery County must be matched by the quality of its leaders, and we will bring that leadership to the courthouse.”

Shapiro and Richards were endorsed by the Montgomery County Democratic Committee on February 17, to lead the row officer ticket as the commissioner candidates.

Shapiro, 37, represents the 153rd Legislative District in Montgomery County in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Shapiro is a committed public servant who has worked in federal and state government for more than 15 years and was named “Best State Legislator” by Philadelphia Magazine. Rep. Shapiro was first elected to the House in 2004 and served as deputy speaker of the House from 2006-2008.

Supervisor Leslie Richards, 43, represents Whitemarsh Township in Montgomery County. A businesswoman who has helped create private sector jobs, Richards has made a difference in our community. Supervisor Richards was elected in 2007 and has served as both Chair and Vice Chair of the Whitemarsh Township Board of Supervisors.

Jane, read a rumor that Patrick Murphy may be planning a run for Atty Genl, now open due to Corbett's election as gov. Any truth? It would be nice to have a Dem counterbalance to the Republican-controlled legislature.

PD, I've heard that rumor from a couple of sources but nothing dependable. A reporter at the Bucks County Courier Times tweeted that he had talked to Murphy who said something like he hadn't made any announcements. I've heard other rumors about other offices, too, but, again, nothing from a reliable sources. We'll just have to wait and see.
